STAIRWAY TO THE MOON

Principles + processes

COURSE: ARCH 182 | INSTRUCTOR: TEDDY SLOWIK | FALL 2017 | WSOA

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the discipline of architecture and to provide a technical, conceptual, and ethical foundation for approaching architectural issues. This studio understands architecture as a collective body of

knowledge, a discipline with discrete techniques, histories, and theories that through their dialogue with one another provide a framework for generating and evaluating architectural work.

EXPLODED AXONOMETRIC, SECTION AND PLAN

Section @ 15’

The first phase of this project was to be understood as a disciplinary exercise that aims to develop form-making intelligence. The second phase applies the disciplinary intelligence derived from the first phase to a cultural condition in the form of a building design. The project focuses on the relationship between mass and void.

Starting with grey models designed only with straight edges and lines and white models designed only with curves, were later combined based on how well they work together not altering any of the geometry. Finally, stairs were added to form a circulation route that lead to moon viewing locations that were highlighted using color.
